Sub VS Dub

I am going to be honest in the fact that there are some dubs that are legitimately bad, like omg...the cringe!!! But, there are a lot of shows that are really good in dub, some even better than sub (at least in my opinion). I honestly do like some shows in sub better than dub like you. But I do know for a fact that the people in dubbing companies like Funimation or Aniplex do not just take random people off the street or just people who are only in it vaguely, most of these voice actors have had well over 10 year of experience (Vic Mignogna, Monica Rial, Cherami Leigh, Todd Haberkorn, etc.). Though there are shows that have miscasts or just have bad dialogue/ scripts the don’t match the lip movements though I believe them to be few and far between. 

I do have to admit I prefer watching subs for two reasons:

1. I can’t read the dialogue last enough to understand/get immersed in the plot, and while some argue that pausing the video’s can help, that just sucks me out of it personally, I don’t like having to pause it and look away from the amazing artwork in font of me, though there are some shows that don’t rely on heavy amounts of dialogue.

2. I just prefer watching a show in my own language, it makes me relate to these characters just a bit more and really helps me feel like the characters are more human to me.

3. There are a decent amount of anime that use verbal humor such as puns. One such example that I can remember is when I was watching "Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger" in one of the episodes there is a Monster that transform people into chestnuts after he scares them, now why is this? The joke is that the word for "Chestnut" in Japan, sound the exact same as the word "Surprise" in Japan. One of the lines the monster says is "Were you surprised that they turn into chestnuts?", which in Japan is funny because it's a pun on their language. It's not funny to americans because there is nonsuch pun like that, now if this show was in america, the monster would've probably said something along the lines of: "I Love driving you humans nuts!!" which while isn't laugh out loud hilarious, still makes sense.

To sum things up, I like both and recognize that both have their problems depending on the show. And give both the benefit of the doubt, and does it really matter the voice of a character as long as we still care about them (unless its annoying to listen to)? No, Why? Because the writers of both versions look at the original versions and still adapt the story so that the original intentions shine through. And in doing so we still know how we are supposed to feel about the characters.

So it doesn’t matter really what version you watch in my opinion as long as you find the version that suits what you love best.
